Using our standard 90,000 kernel per bushel equation to figure yields, our 2024 crop tour had an estimated 202.08 bushel yield per acre.
The tour average of ears per acre came in at 31.85 ears/acre and average rows at 16.43, both were average over the last ten years. The tour did find the average ear length to be the longest in the last ten years at 34.75.
There was a clear difference between the April planted corn vs the later planted corn. Both were good quality and as long as we continue to see favorable weather the later planted corn will fill out very well.
We couldn't hardly ask for better weather conditions for this years crop. With that being said we had disease in the back of our minds as we went out into the fields. There was a presence tar spot and aphids in some of the fields but not enough for concern.
With the excellent plant health, ear length, and potential for later planted corn to add on more weight we are leaning more towards a kernel count of 78,000 per bushel. At 78,000 that would push our tour estimate to 233.17 bushels per acre.
